On the morning of July 6th, the Opening Ceremony of 2019 Language & Culture Communication Summer Camp for Students on Both Sides of the Taiwan Straits and “The Belt and Road” Chinese Classics Donation Ceremony were held in No.1 Academic Hall of Special Education Block in Quanzhou Normal University. More than 300 people attended the activity, including Tian Lixin, Director of Department of Language Application & Administration and Department of Language Information Management of the Ministry of Education, Li Xun, Deputy Director of Education Department of Fujian Province, Xiao Hanhui, Vice-Mayor of Quanzhou Municipal Government, Huang Qiang, Party Secretary and Director of People's Education Press, Fang Ming, General Counsel of  Chinese Classics Database, Broadcasting Instructor of China Media Group and a famous recital artist, Zhu Shize, Party Secretary of QNU, Qu Guangqing, President of QNU, officials from Department of Language Application & Administration and Department of Language Information Management, Work Committee for Taiwan and Overseas Chinese of the Standing Committee of Fujian Provincial People's Congress, Education Department of Fujian Province, People's Education Press, Quanzhou Municipal Government, Straits Publishing & Distributing Group of Fujian Province, Quanzhou Education Bureau, heads of the relevant functional departments of QNU, and teachers and students of the summer camp. The opening ceremony was hosted by Huang Jiangkun, Vice President of QNU.

Tian Lixin said in her speech that this activity, which provided the participants, students from both Fujian and Taiwan, an opportunity to read together and make friends, was inspired by President Xi Jinping’s statement the communication between Taiwan and Fujian is in essence a person-to-person communication, especially the contact of souls and minds.  As Tian pointed out, Quanzhou, the starting point and origin of Ancient Maritime Silk Road, is the most important participant and witness in this historic route. She sincerely hoped that scholars, experts, teachers and students could continue the New Chapter of Reading Classics on Maritime Silk Road, read and enjoy the classics together, and push forward the diffusion of Chinese culture.

This summer camp is to last till July 14th, during which the instruction in calligraphy, reading, speech and literature arts from Fujian’s renowned scholars and experts will improve students’ understanding and application of Chinese language. This series of cultural activity will bring students a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese culture and strengthen their Chinese national identity.
