QNU Students Perform Nanyin Music at the Spring Festival Gala

“Time is fleeting as hundreds of birds return to the nest”, “resonate with the whole country and the world”, these are lyrics from A Hundred Birds Return to the Nest, which amazed the audience at the 2023 CCTV Spring Festival Gala. 14 QNU students, young singer Tan Weiwei, Taiwan Nanyin actor Lai Duoli, performers from Quanzhou Nanyin Heritage Center and Xiamen Nanyin Orchestra, which totaled 39 members, sang the song A Hundred Birds Return to the Nest with the world-class intangible cultural heritage Nanyin as the background, presenting the traditional Nanyin musical notation and the “Four Treasures”, namely the four percussion instruments used in Nanyin. As a blending of the elegant thousand-year-old music with the fashionable modern music, the performance integrates the innovation of Chinese excellent traditional culture into the modern times and highlights the everlasting charm of the Chinese traditional culture inherited for thousands of years. The performance was hailed as the program with most culture value by Morning News on CCTV. People’s Daily, Fujian Daily, Quanzhou Evening News and many other media.

This participation in the CCTV Spring Festival Gala this time is not only a vivid demonstration of the university’s inheritance and promotion of excellent traditional Chinese culture, but also a review of the talent cultivation and educational achievement of musicology major (Nanyin Music) on bachelor’s degree and master’s degree levels.
